BYU Cougarettes Dance Concert (Feb 23, 2013)-- by Bree

Last year a small group of us took a trip to Provo to attend the BYU Cougarettes Dance concert.  It was fabulous and totally inspiring, so we had to go again this year!  We had a good group of girls who love to dance and they were eager and excited to see the skills and talents of the Cougarettes.  Indeed, the concert this year was fabulous and we were amazed at the level of professional dancing and performance.  We had a great day in Utah Valley and really love these opportunities to experience the world around us!

SOMOS Scholarship Gala (Feb 16, 2013)- by Bree

Krista C. was a proud recipient of a 2013 scholarship from the SOMOS foundation.  Olga de la Cruz was a strong advocate on her behalf and even made sure there was a table available for Krista's friends and family to attend.  Thank you Olga!  We had a fun time dressed up fancy, exploring the Grand America hotel, and ultimately cheering on and supporting Krista!

Teen Valentine's Day Party (Feb 14, 2013)- by Bree

This year for Valentine's Day, Kit Kat (staff) had the great idea to go old-school style and have a Valentine's Party for the teens.  We encouraged all participating teens to make their own, creative Valentine's box to have ready for our big Valentine's card exchange.  We had a good number of teens that took the time and effort to prepare a fun box, and our party was full of food, love notes, and fun!  :)  We'll take any excuse to have fun and celebrate with food.

Josh's box was pretty much the best ever!

Festive "Valentine's Day" attire.  :)

A few pics from our Valentine's Dance Party...

Payless Shoes (Feb 7, 2013)

Free Shoes @ Payless Shoe Source!!!

Our teens got hooked up with free vouchers to pick out any pair of shoes at $20 or less.  What a cool opportunity!  Fortunately, we chose to visit the location at Jordan Landing, which is a brand new, LARGE store, so all the teens had plenty of options.  They all found a pair that they liked and were happy and grateful for this experience.  Thank you Payless!

Utah Youth of the Year Competition (Feb 6, 2013)-- by Bree

After many days, weeks, and months of preparing for the "real deal" Youth of the Year competition, Krista embraced the day with excitement and confidence.  She was accompanied by her mom (Loretta) and myself (Bree) and we had a great day together.  I think it's a neat opportunity for the teens to get all dressed up, spend time in a fancy hotel, shake hands and visit with professionals in the community, and reflect on their Club memories and experiences.

Over the last year, we have seen Krista transform into a confident, capable, beautiful young woman.  She was always so shy and quiet, and she pays a lot of credit to the Boys & Girls Club and friends for helping her find her "voice", personality, and ultimately, her confidence.

This year there were 5 competing Youth of the Year nominees-- all hoping to be the one to receive the scholarship and opportunity to move on to the regional west coast competition.

To pass the time, we took random pictures and tried to talk Krista out of feeling nervous. :)

Smiling and giving her well-rehearsed speech.

The hard part was over!  Now she can relax and enjoy the rest of the evening.

Krista & her supportive mom.

Anxiously anticipating the winner... which wasn't Krista.  But that's okay!

So proud of Krista and all she has done to contribute to the Midvale teen program!

Silver Lake Adventure (Oct 16, 2012)-- by Bree

Have you ever been to Silver Lake in Big Cottonwood Canyon?

It is gorgeous!

On a beautiful no-school day we decided to take advantage of the perfect weather.  It can hardly be considered a "hike" because it is level ground with a boarded walkway around the lake.  But it was a fun adventure as we explored the natural surroundings.  Hiding behind trees, climbing big boulders, posing for pictures... this was a fun and carefree afternoon for all of us!

Don't be intimidated by our awesomeness.

I love this picture.  It is perfection!
