Utah Youth of the Year Competition (Feb 6, 2013)-- by Bree

After many days, weeks, and months of preparing for the "real deal" Youth of the Year competition, Krista embraced the day with excitement and confidence.  She was accompanied by her mom (Loretta) and myself (Bree) and we had a great day together.  I think it's a neat opportunity for the teens to get all dressed up, spend time in a fancy hotel, shake hands and visit with professionals in the community, and reflect on their Club memories and experiences.

Over the last year, we have seen Krista transform into a confident, capable, beautiful young woman.  She was always so shy and quiet, and she pays a lot of credit to the Boys & Girls Club and friends for helping her find her "voice", personality, and ultimately, her confidence.

This year there were 5 competing Youth of the Year nominees-- all hoping to be the one to receive the scholarship and opportunity to move on to the regional west coast competition.

To pass the time, we took random pictures and tried to talk Krista out of feeling nervous. :)

Smiling and giving her well-rehearsed speech.

The hard part was over!  Now she can relax and enjoy the rest of the evening.

Krista & her supportive mom.

Anxiously anticipating the winner... which wasn't Krista.  But that's okay!

So proud of Krista and all she has done to contribute to the Midvale teen program!
